Bible Synapse

Nothing on Bible Synapse belongs to Bible Synapse. The Bible texts, translations, commentaries, devotions, dictionaries, data, maps, illustrations, photographs, fonts and software you see here are the work of their respective owners, or are in the public domain. The site only gathers them in one place for free, non-commercial Bible study, and claims no ownership of any of them. Every owner is named on the Credits & ownership page.

The short summaries and answers written for the site are built from the sources they cite, and the facts and ideas in them belong to those sources.

Copyright & takedown

Our approach

Bible Synapse respects the rights of the people and organisations whose work it shows. It uses only material that is in the public domain or offered under an open licence that allows this kind of use, and it credits every owner on the Credits & ownership page. Photographs are credited with their author and licence where they are shown. Where no freely licensed photograph of an archaeological find exists, the site links to the museum’s own page instead of showing one.

For example, modern copyrighted Bible translations (such as the NIV, ESV, NLT and NKJV) are deliberately not included, because their publishers do not allow a free website to show their full text.

All copyrights, trademarks and other rights in the material belong to their respective owners.

If you own material shown here

If you believe that something on the site uses your work without permission, credits you wrongly, or uses your work in a way your licence does not allow, please write to info@biblesynapse.com with:

  1. your name and how to reach you;
  2. the work you own, and where it is published;
  3. the address of the page on Bible Synapse where it appears, and what on that page you mean;
  4. what you would like done: corrected credit, a different licence notice, or removal;
  5. a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not allowed, and that the information in your message is accurate and that you are the owner or are allowed to act for the owner.

Valid concerns will be acted on promptly: the material will be corrected or removed, usually while the concern is looked into. You will receive a reply.

If your material was removed by mistake

If something was removed after a complaint and you believe it was allowed to be there (for example because it is in the public domain or under an open licence), write to the same address with the details, and the decision will be reviewed.

Reusing material from the site

Please see section 3 of the Terms of Use. Material from other owners may be reused only as their licences allow; the Credits page lists each licence.
