Bible Synapse

Nothing on Bible Synapse belongs to Bible Synapse. The Bible texts, translations, commentaries, devotions, dictionaries, data, maps, illustrations, photographs, fonts and software you see here are the work of their respective owners, or are in the public domain. The site only gathers them in one place for free, non-commercial Bible study, and claims no ownership of any of them. Every owner is named on the Credits & ownership page.

The short summaries and answers written for the site are built from the sources they cite, and the facts and ideas in them belong to those sources.

Bible Synapse is built to know as little about you as possible. This page explains what that means in practice.

In short

What is kept on your device

When you highlight a verse, write a note, add a bookmark, follow a reading plan or change a setting, the site saves it in your browser’s own storage (IndexedDB) on that device only. Nothing is uploaded. Because it lives only in your browser:

The published site may also keep a copy of its own pages and data files on your device so that it opens quickly and works offline. This holds no information about you, and clearing the site’s data removes it.

Visit counts

To see how the site is used, Bible Synapse counts visits with Vercel Web Analytics. For each page opened it records the page’s address, the address of the page that linked to it, the country, and the kind of device, browser and operating system. It sets no cookies and stores no IP address. Visits are told apart only within a single day, by a code worked out from the request that is thrown away after 24 hours and cannot be traced back to you. Only the totals are shown, and only to the site’s operator. How Vercel Web Analytics handles data.

Other services the site uses

To show some material, your browser connects directly to these services. Each can receive the usual technical details any website receives (your IP address, browser type and the address of the page that asked), under its own privacy policy:

Links to other websites (museums, libraries, commentaries, articles) open those websites, whose own privacy policies apply.

Searching, the maps, the timeline, the circle and arc views, “Share as an image” and everything else run in your browser, from files that come with the site.

Children

The site collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.

Your rights

Bible Synapse does not collect or hold personal data about you, so there is nothing it can show, correct or delete on request: your notes are in your own browser, under your control. For information held by the services listed above, please contact them directly. If you have a question about privacy on this site, write to info@biblesynapse.com.

Changes

If the site ever starts to collect information, or to use a new outside service, this page will be updated first, and the date at the top will change.
