Explained connections
- What is man?
Psalm 8 marvels that God made humanity a little lower than the angels yet crowned it with glory. Hebrews observes that we do not yet see everything subject to humanity — but we do see Jesus, who became 'man' and now wears that crown, fulfilling humanity's intended destiny.
- All things under his feet
The psalm gives humankind dominion over creation. Paul reads it of the risen Christ, the last Adam, under whose feet God places every enemy including death — with the one exception of God the Father himself.
- Out of the mouths of babes
Psalm 8 says God ordains praise from infants. When the chief priests object to children shouting 'Hosanna' in the temple, Jesus quotes the psalm, implying the praise is fitting — and implicitly directed at God.
