Explained connections
- Abraham went out not knowing where
God calls Abram to leave his country for a land he will be shown. Hebrews highlights the faith of setting out without knowing the destination, looking for a city whose builder is God.
- Stephen retells Abraham's call
Stephen begins his speech with God appearing to Abraham in Mesopotamia and quoting this call. His point: God's story with Israel began outside the land, so God is not bound to one place.
- The gospel preached beforehand to Abraham
God promises Abraham that all nations will be blessed in him. Paul calls this the gospel announced in advance: Scripture foresaw God justifying Gentiles by faith.
- Every nation, tribe and tongue
God promises that all families of the earth will be blessed through Abraham. Revelation sees the outcome: a multitude no one can count from every nation, tribe, people and language before the throne.
