Explained connections
- Do not despise the Lord's discipline
Proverbs tells a son not to resent the LORD's correction, because it shows love. Hebrews applies it to believers facing hardship: discipline is a sign they are God's children.
- God resists the proud
Proverbs says God mocks the scornful but gives grace to the humble. James quotes the Greek wording to call quarrelling believers to humility.
- Clothe yourselves with humility
Peter quotes the same proverb as James, urging both elders and younger members to put on humility — a sign of how widely the verse circulated among early Christians.
