Explained connections
- Strike the shepherd, the sheep scatter
Zechariah has God command the sword against his shepherd so the flock scatters. On the way to Gethsemane Jesus quotes it to predict the disciples' desertion — fulfilled that same night.
- "All ye shall be offended"
Mark records the same prediction, followed at once by Jesus' promise to go before them into Galilee after he is raised. The scattering is real but temporary.
