Explained connections
- "Thy throne, O God, is for ever"
A royal wedding psalm addresses the king with the striking words 'your throne, O God'. Hebrews takes this as the Father speaking to the Son, one of the New Testament's strongest Old Testament supports for Christ's divinity.
- Anointed with the oil of gladness
The royal psalm says the king loved righteousness and was anointed above his companions. Hebrews continues the quotation, presenting the Son as the righteous, anointed king — 'Messiah' itself means 'anointed one'.
