Explained connections
- Daniel reads Jeremiah
Jeremiah promises God will bring the exiles back after seventy years. Daniel, reading Jeremiah's scroll near the end of that period, turns to prayer — Scripture prompting a prophet to intercede.
- The Anointed One cut off
Daniel's seventy-weeks vision speaks of an anointed one being 'cut off' before the city and sanctuary are destroyed. Christian readers since the early church have linked it to the Messiah's death; Jesus' words on the Emmaus road — the Christ had to suffer — summarise that conviction. The interpretation of Daniel 9 is much debated.
