Explained connections
- Cyrus, God's shepherd
Isaiah names Cyrus as the one who will order Jerusalem and the temple rebuilt. Ezra opens with Cyrus' decree allowing the exiles to return and rebuild.
- The first and the last
In Isaiah God declares 'I am the first and I am the last; besides me there is no God'. In Revelation the risen Jesus says 'I am the first and the last' — taking a title Isaiah reserves for God alone.
- Alpha and Omega
Revelation ends with Jesus calling himself Alpha and Omega, first and last, beginning and end — the same claim God makes in Isaiah, now applied to Christ.
