- The Olivet discourse
Jesus' sermon on the Mount of Olives about the temple's destruction and his return appears in all three Synoptics. Here both quote Isaiah's imagery of the sun darkened.
- The word that never passes away
Isaiah says grass withers but God's word stands for ever. Jesus says heaven and earth will pass away but his words will not — placing his words on the level of God's.
- As in the days of Noah
Noah enters the ark while the world carries on unaware. Jesus says his coming will be like that: people eating, drinking and marrying until the flood swept them away.
