Explained connections
- Cleansing the temple
The Synoptics place Jesus' cleansing of the temple in his final week; John places it at the start of his ministry. Some see two events, others one event placed thematically.
- Zeal for your house
The psalmist is consumed by passion for God's house and bears the insults aimed at God. When Jesus drives traders from the temple, his disciples remember this verse; the line also foreshadows that his zeal will cost him his life.
- "Whatever he says to you, do it"
During the famine Pharaoh tells Egypt: go to Joseph and do what he tells you. At Cana Mary tells the servants the same about Jesus, who then provides abundantly — a verbal echo casting Jesus as the greater provider.
- The builder of God's house
God promises David's son will build a house for his name. Jesus says 'destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it', speaking of his body — the Son of David builds the true temple through resurrection.
