Explained connections
- The transfiguration
On a high mountain Jesus is transfigured before Peter, James and John. All three Synoptics place it right after Peter's confession and Jesus' first prediction of his death.
- As he prayed, his face changed
Luke adds that the transfiguration happened while Jesus prayed, and that Moses and Elijah spoke about his 'exodus' about to be accomplished in Jerusalem.
- Despised and set at nought
Isaiah's servant is despised and rejected, a man of sorrows. Jesus tells his disciples it is written that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be treated with contempt — very likely alluding to this verse.
